Igigo Wu

Igigo Wu (b. 1999, Taipei) is a Taiwanese artist based in Austria whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, drawing, photography, writing, and experimental film. Drawing on her background in moving image, her research centers on the construction of identity, uncovering the often brutal nature of history, memory, and subjectivity. Her work investigates the ecology of violence within postcolonial contexts, using painting as an organically evolving ecosystem of consciousness through which to critique the violence embedded in contemporary society. Her paintings invite viewers into an inexpressible realm where forms of violence beyond the limits of language and cognition gradually emerge.

Wu's practice is deeply informed by Taiwan's geopolitical landscape, particularly her experiences in coastal windbreak forests and experimental forests—sites that function not only as natural environments but also as repositories of historical memory. She approaches the body as both a battlefield and an ongoing process, tracing the reverberations of history to reveal the intersections of collective trauma and personal memory. Through a distinctive visual language, her work seeks to reconstruct silenced histories while exploring the shifting boundaries between violence, memory, and perception.

Wu received her BFA in Mixed Media from the Taipei National University of the Arts and earned an MFA in Fine Arts from the Zurich University of the Arts in 2023. She has participated in exhibitions and artistic residencies across Taiwan, Switzerland, Germany, and other countries.
